Palaka is Manly

Mike Doyle first went to Hawaii in 1959 and by that time a lot of surfers were now living the Quonset Hut life on the North Shore and driving around Kaena Point when Makaha was breaking. Buzzy Trent tricked Doyle into surfing the Banzai Pipeline in 1959 and he also entered the Makaha International but lost his board in a preliminary heat. Looks like Doyle went to M. Nii to get some palaka shorts, because he was wearing them on the beach in Australia, five years later. This is Doyle with L.J. Richards and Joey Cabell, at the first World Contest held at Manly Beach, Australia in May of 1964.
